Winter magic, an open-air ice rink, and top-tier women’s hockey against an alpine backdrop: The Women’s Winter Classic, held right in the heart of Gstaad, is one of the highlights of Swiss women’s ice hockey and delights fans, players, and organizers alike year after year.

On behalf of RED.Sport Network, we had the privilege of producing the live broadcast of the match between the reigning champions, SCB, and the league leaders, EV Zug. The production was carried out using a 4+2 setup, featuring four manned cameras and two fixed behind-the-net cameras from our own equipment. Due to the lack of traditional stadium infrastructure in Gstaad, the entire technical setup was custom-planned and implemented.

Despite temperatures of around –10 °C, the winter night offered ideal conditions for an atmospheric live broadcast. We used our new broadcast van, “Horu 1,” which was developed and built last year in collaboration with Broadcast Solutions and delivers the highest production quality even under challenging outdoor conditions.
